This is a 100% FTE salaried position. The scheduled shifts are primarily Monday-Friday day shifts with some off shifts and weekends. Hours may vary based on the needs of the department. You will work on-site primarily at University Hospital and American Family Children’s Hospital located in Madison, WI.

We are seeking a MSN or DNP prepared Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Behavioral Health and Safety team:

  • You will support nursing to safely address patient behaviors that are related to a medical or psychiatric disorder. Operating under the CNS department, the Behavioral Health and Safety team covers inpatient units at the University Hospital (excluding inpatient psychiatry unit) and the American Family Children's Hospital and are available to support the East Madison Hospital.

  • You may be consulted to provide chart reviews and/or in-person rounding for:

    • Help with identifying and managing patient behavioral triggers.

    • Assist staff with the development of a behavioral care plans.

    • Support staff with navigating challenging behaviors, such as limit setting, boundaries management, safety awareness, etc.

    • Support staff with education and/or interventions for the patient's underlying medical and/or psychiatric condition.

    • Provide activities to help keep a patient engaged and distracted.

    • Reviewing behavioral incidents to help mitigate workplace violence.

  • Implement customized evidence-based advanced nursing interventions, including the provision of direct care, to improve nurse-sensitive outcomes.

  • Act as a clinical expert for specific clinical populations; two years of medical behavioral health experience is strongly preferred.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or doctoral degree in Nursing Required
  • Master's Degree or doctoral degree (DNP or PhD) with CNS role focus Preferred
Work Experience
  • 2 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required
  • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Preferred
  • Previous experience as a clinical nurse specialist Preferred
  • Experience in an academic medical center Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Wisconsin or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Required
  • Current CPR/BLS certification Required
  • CNS certification Preferred
  • Certification in specialty area of practice Preferred
